ACETONE REPLACEMENTS

FOR THE

FIBERGLASS REINFORCED POLYESTER

INDUSTRY

Acetone has historically been the solvent of choice for cleaning lay-up tools and rollers in the FRP industry. However, in recent years, replacement solvents and systems have been offered to avoid the low flash point with consequent fire danger and the rapid evaporation rate of acetone. In addition, the cost of acetone has doubled in the last year.

Alkaline water based systems are inexpensive but require new methods, expensive equipment and retraining of personnel in order to be effective. Replacement solvents that have been offered are safer than acetone but extremely expensive.

After extensive laboratory research and a cooperative testing with Penn Yan Marine Manufacturing Co., manufacturers of world famous Penn Yan Boats, Seneca Research, Inc. developed a new roller and implement cleaner for the FRP industry.

“SENECA SYSTEMS”™ “Molecular Activated”™ S-922 Resin Cleaner is moderately priced and does not require any change in the method of cleaning normally used. It is a direct replacement for acetone without the volatility and low flash point.

S-922 Cleaner has a high capacity to hold catalyzed resin in solution before gelling. This avoids the early gelling and solidification, which occurs when using acetone and other cleaning solvents. As a result, a small amount goes a long way and minimizes waste.

S-922 Cleaner does not require the introduction of new equipment and completely new cleaning methods. As stated above, IT IS A DIRECT ACETONE REPLACEMENT.
