SENECA SYSTEMS™ SOLVENT S-515Solvent S-515 is a high boiling, high flash point, low evaporation rate low odor stripper designed to be used in flow over systems to replace methylene chloride. It is supplied with or without detergent depending; whether or not, if the operator uses a water wash. Although S-515's rate of attack on finishes is slower than methylene chloride strippers at room temperature (70 F), the rate of attack on finishes is more than doubled if the stripper is maintained at 100F ( USE METAL PAIL ONLY!!!). A thermostatically controlled pail heater should be used on the stripping tray. Since the boiling point and flash point is very high, the heating will have little effect on evaporation rate but more than double the speed of attack on paint. Drying times of the stripped pieces of furniture will be slower than when using methylene chloride strippers. This is caused by the higher boiling point and slower evaporation rate of Solvent S-515. Use of a water wash helps to reduce this problem. However, the ideal solution is to dry the pieces in a ventilated area with infra-red heaters located overhead. This will avoid any possible problems with lingering odors. As a result of Solvent S-515's low toxicity, modest area ventilation is all that is required. The stripper is offered in three types, S-515, S-515D to be used when a water wash is desired and S-515P a semi-paste version to be used when a dip tank is not available. It is recommended that heavily painted pieces be prepped with S-515P and, after the bulk of the finish is removed, complete the stripping on the stripping tray. SENECA SYSTEMS™ Solvents S-515 and S-515D are offered in 5-gallon pails, 30-gallon drums. Solvent S-515P is offered in 5-gallon pails and 30-gallon drums.
